The Legend is the most famous knife ever since it was introduced for use during World War II. Just after the start of the war Ka-Bar, makers of knives submitted a design to the US Marines hoping that it would become general issue to the Marines. The department worked with Ka-Bar and came up with a design for an improved fighting/utility knife. The result was the Legend. The demand for the knife was so great. Even if it was manufactured by different knife companies, it became known as a Ka-Bar.

Ka-Bar knives were of such high quality that it was depended on to perform daily tasks such as pounding tent stakes, driving nails, opening ration cans and digging foxholes. Yes, Ka-Bar knives could do that aside from protecting lives. This made them the knife of choice not only by the Marines but also the Army, Navy, Coast Guard and underwater Demolition Teams. Today these knives are still available but you have to watch out for knockoffs. An authentic Ka-Bar knife will have a seal under the handle. There is also the “USMC” symbol on the leather handle.
